Description
Strolling through Nishi-ward: Enmanji with Beautiful Buddha Statue and Wall Painting
When you walk around 500 meters from Kubocho toward Kuboyama Cemetery, you will find stately gate of a temple on your left. That is Tendaishu Bekkaku Honzan Enmanji. A vivid red color gate of main hall was constructed in Heisei 2.
Principal deity of the temple is Byakue-kannon, which is one of the 33 kannons. It was built during Edo period. There is another deity Amidanyurai-ritsuzo, which was built in Muromachi Period. Both statues are famous for its beautiful design.
I would say the temple has two more treasures, which two pieces of wall paintings made in Heisei 2 by prestigious female Chinse painter Fueki Yo. She was a lecturer of Suiboku-ga (ink-painting) of NHK TV show. She has painted many other wall paintings for Sanzen-in Temple in Kyoto, Enryakuji, Tsurugaoka Hachiman-g? in Kamakura and Daihonzan Eiheiji. If you have a chance, I highly recommend you to visit.
