Description
Strolling through Nishi-ward: “Museum of Ship and Science” YOKOHAMA MARITIME MUSEUM
Japan is a marine nation surrounded by the sea on all sides. However, compared with the United Kingdom and European countries, Japan had less opportunities to expand overseas. Surprisingly, it has lower standards of shipbuilding and sailing skills. In 663, in the Battle of Hakusukinoe, Japan and Baekje restoration forces completely lost against the allied forces of Silla and the Tang dynasty. Later it lost against Admiral Yi Sunsin in the dispatch of troops to Korea by Hideyoshi Toyotomi. It was extremely rare case that Japan defeated Baltic Fleet in Japanese-Russo War.
Japan now has turned into one of the most famous shipbuilding countries in the world. However, it is said that general public still has less interests in ocean and ships. So, I would like to recommend you to visit “YOKOHAMA MARITIME MUSEUM”, a museum of port and ship. I’m sure you will discover something new.
