Strolling through Nishi-ward: Fruit Tree in Rinko Park

At the north corner of Rinko Park, which is located in 1-chome Minatomirai, there is a mysterious tree in the woods. The tree is supported by thick truck and it bears a lot of colorful fruits and vegetables. It is called Fruit Tree. It was an entry work for “Yokohama Triennale 2001”. It was created by Korean sculptor Choi Jeong Hwa.

It was created with prayer for good harvest and peace. Of course, it received high evaluation. Local Fuji Lions Club purchased it as 30th year anniversary project. After the exhibition period, the Club donated it to Yokohama city and it has been displayed here since then.

You can see Bay Bridge and cruise ships from this area. I’m sure this place will draw lots of attention as a new dating spot in Yokohama.
