Description
Strolling through Nishi-ward: Five-Forked Road on the Hill
After climbing up a long slope from Kubo-cho to Higashi-kubo-cho, you will get to this place.
This intersection is surprisingly a five-forked road. Motokubo-cho in Nishi-ward is located on the left, Iwai-cho in Hodogaya-ward on the right. If you go straight, you will get to Shimizugaoka in Minami-ward. So, this place is a boundary of three wards. Therefore, there are many traffic lights. It is very complicated as when one turns red, another turns green.
Looking at a map, I was surprised to learn there are many other roads leading to the hill. Why are there many roads concentrated in this area? That’s because there are many temples in this area as it is said to be Teramachi (Temple Town) of Yokohama. I believe that pious Buddhists who enshrined their ancestors visited those temples frequently.
