Description
Strolling through Nishi-ward: Tora ga ame (Tiger’s rain)
“Tora ga ame (Tiger’s rain)” and “Tora ga namida (Tiger’s tears)” mean rain which is said to fall on May 28th by the lunar calendar. It is a day when Zyuro. Sukenari Zyuro and Tokimune Goro are called Soga brothers and they killed Suketsune Kudo to revenge their father’s death at Fuji no Makigari (Hunting session at Mt. Fuji). It is said that the rain is tears of Zyuro’s girlfriend Toragozen.
There is Gorinto (five-ringed tower) which is said to be “Grave of Goshogoromaru” in a corner of Goshoyamacho. Goshogoromaru went down history as a Samurai who understood human empathy and principle and helped Soga brothers to achieve their goal. There are other graves which are said to be graves of Soga brothers and Toragozen in Hakone and Odawara. Aside from authenticity arguments by historians, we should protect this Gorinto which was built in 1193 (Kenky? 4) and has long history.
This area was named after ruins of Goshogoromaru’s mansion.
