Strolling through Nishi-ward: Bronze Statue of Kamonnokami (Ii Naosuke)
Bronze statue of Tairo Kamonnokami Ii Naosuke was built at this hill in 1909 (Meiji 42) to honor for his commitment to open Yokohama port.
There was some drama over unveiling ceremony of the bronze statue. In addition, this bronze eastatue was donated as apart of metal supply order during Second World War. It can be said that Ii Naosuke had faced series of hardships since Sakuradamon Incident.
But now, he is looking down Minato Mirai 21 area developing everyday from the corner of beautiful Kamonyama Park. During cherry blossom season, the park is filled with lots of cherry-blossom viewers. Yokohama Noh Theater, which is one of the new landmarks is located in a corner of the park.
