Description
When you get off at the “Sakainotani / Lastel Mae [Funeral Hall]” bus stop near Kuboyama and go up the steep hill next to “Sakainotani Fire Station” and walk through the residential area, you will find “Sakainotani Park”.
The park opened in 1976. A log house for kids (Chibikko Toride or Fort for Kids) was built in the park where children are playing around with the athletic equipment on the first and second floor.
Also in the park, there is a statue of a young man to commemorate the birthplace of Kanagawa University. In 1929, the one-story wooden “Yokohama Vocational School”, the predecessor of Kanagawa University was established on this site which used to be a rice field. In the following year, the school facility was relocated to Rokkakubashi, Kanagawa-ku because the site was not enough to be expanded. After the relocation, this site was called “Vocational School Square”.
Today, the park with the log house is always filled with cheerful voices of children. Last year in April, Kanagawa University opened its Minatomirai Campus.
