Onko Chishin! Trek-trek Sketch in Nishi-ward: Zinchuzaka Slope
Fujidana-cho crossing is always busy six-forked road filled with shops. Climbing up steep slope located at right side of 7th Yurindo bookstore.
When I was a kid, I used to cross the slope and went to Nogeyama park with friends. This road is called “Suido-michi (water road)”. Modern water system was first developed in Japan in 1887 (Meiji 20) from Mii Midori-ward Sagamihara city to Nogeyama water purification plant. At that time, trolley rails were laid in order to transfer materials including water pipes to install underground. The construction must have been very hard as it is a very steep slope.
Looking back on the way of the slope, you can see Suido-michi road crosses over the intersection and extends a little straight.
I asked a person who just climbed the slope what is the origin of the name of the slope. That person said “There used to be Zinchu (current Kibogaoka Senior High School) in the past, so that’s why it’s called Zinchuzaka slope”.
It was a beautiful sunny day, so I was able to clearly see Mt. Fuji on the rid and Mt. Tanzawa in front.
