Onko Chishin! Trek-trek Sketch in Nishi-ward: Kishamichi Promenade
Heading to Minato Mirai area from Sakuragicho station and passing Sakuragicho st. crossing and nippon-maru crossing, you will find the entrance of Kishamachi Promenade. It used to be a railway but it was discontinued and was reborn as a promenade in 1997 (Heisei 9).
The original railway was opened to traffic in 1911 (Meiji 44) from first Yokohama station to Shinko pier and was part of Rinko line where steam locomotives were running. It is said that those steam locomotives carry passengers of ships sometimes.
During YOKOHAMA EXOTIC SHOWCASE '89 which was held in March 1989 (Heisei 1), retro railway trans were running to Yamashita Park and gained popularity.
When I was a high school student, I used to walk through the discontinued railway in adventure mood. There remains a disused railway on the promenade.
Banketa Bridge and part of port number one bridge on truss bridge are in Nishi-ward. Whenever I go there, I can enjoy amazing landscape of Minatomirai from the bridge. Then promenade enters Naka-ku and it continues to second and third bridge, then to Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse.
