Onko Chishin! Trek-trek Sketch in Nishi-ward: Nogeyama Fudoson

There is the west approach to Nogeyama Fudosan near Nogezaka crossing in front of Yokohama City Central Library. If you climb up a narrow slope, you will find red-color main hall. You can also take the other approach which is long steep stairs from Ongaku street near Sakuragicho station.

Actually, Nogeyama Fudoson is a popular name and its official name is Naritasan Yokohama Betsuin Temple. It was founded in 1870 (Meiji 3) after the opening of Yokohama port by transferring a divine spirit of Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple. Six years later, when the current place was donated to the temple, it was moved to this place.

Honzon (principal object of worship) of the temple is Fud? My?? (Acala), which is said to be a hidden Buddhas of Tokugawa clan. It has also been worshiped by Yokohama citizens as popular religion. I have nostalgic memory of my mother bringing me to this temple when I was little.

Current main hall was completed in 2015 (Heisei 27). From the high ground of the precincts, you can overlook cityscape of Minato Mirai area and Noge.

I heard the sound of Buddhist sutra of praying Homa and heavy drum while I was sketching.
