Onko Chishin! Trek-trek Sketch in Nishi-ward: Takashima Suisaisen Park

There is a park close to Yokohama station east exit with great view but not widely known.

Starting from the back of Yokohama Sogo and crossing “Hamamirai Walk”, a bridge over Takabira River. Climbing down stairs just in front of NISSAN headquarters building and walking along the river. After crossing Minatomirai Bridge, you will find Takashima Suisaisen Park which was opened in 2011 (Heisei 23).

In the park, you can find a monument of concrete packed in gunny sack, which used to be used as training wall of Yokohama port, which was constructed at this place in late Meiji period. This place used to be a part of Yokohama port in the past.

There is a revetment where fish, shrimp, crab and shell can inhabit. There is an educational zone where you can learn and be in close contact with nature. The zone includes tidal pond, rocky shore, tidal flat and tide pool. Mullets were jumping in the pond.

You can have great landscape from the park such as Sea Bus operating in Takabira River and high-rise apartment buildings in YOKOHAMA PORTSIDE on opposite shore. On the side, an electric locomotive passes by on Takashima line occasionally.
