Onko Chishin! Trek-trek Sketch in Nishi-ward: Mitsubishi Dock Railway Crossing



From Takashimacho crossing to Sakuragicho station, there is long elevated railway of old T?ky? T?yoko Line and JR Negishi Line. There is a pathway under the elevated railway near Hanasakibashi bus stop and “Mitsubishi Dock Railway Crossing” is located close-by. Takashima Line, which is freight train is running between Sakuragicho station to Tsurumi station. The line used to extend to Yokohama port in the past. Beyond the railway crossing and Metropolitan Expressway, you can see modern view of Minato Mirai 21 area such as Yokohama Landmark Tower. Former Yokohama Dock Co., Ltd, (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Yokohama Shipyard) was once located in this area. There was a company’s main gate after crossing the railway crossing. I imagine many workers crossed the elevated railway and railway crossing in the morning and evening in the past. It is said that there was also Takashima gate at Yokohama station direction in the past. When I was sketching, the bell started to ring as “clang clang” and the gate came down. Then a electric locomotive passed by. The railway crossing is still in operation.
