Onko Chishin! Trek-trek Sketch in Nishi-ward: Grave of Goshogoromaru
Walking around six minutes toward Tobe from Nishi-hiranuma crossing near Keikyu Line Tobe station, you will find a white-color Gorinto or five-ringed tower which is said to be “Grave of Goshogoromaru” in residential area of Goshoyamacho.
Goromaru is a character from “Revenge of Soga Brothers”, which is one of the three major revenge stories in Japan.
During Kamakura period in 1193 (Kenky? 7), Soga brothers killed Suketsune Kudo to revenge their father’s death at Fuji no Makigari (Hunting session at Mt. Fuji) hosted by Minamoto no Yoritomo. In the incident, Goromaru is said to have helped the revenge by guiding Soga brothers to Suketsune Kudo’s room.
“Revenge of Soga Brothers” has been played in Noh and Kabuki. It was also made into Ukiyo-e Painting, picture book, movie and TV drama.
Name of Goshoyamacho is said to originate from Goshogoromaru.
I’m grateful that this grave has been protected by local people for long time.
