Onko Chishin! Trek-trek Sketch in Nishi-ward: Yokohama Museum of Art

Yokohama Museum of Art is located next to Yokohama Landmark Tower in Minatomirai area with its iconic features of long peristyle and semicircular structures in the center.

It was opened as one of the pavilions at YOKOHAMA EXOTIC SHOWCASE '89 which was held in March 1989 (Heisei 1) in commemoration of 100th year anniversary of Yokohama city government and 130th year anniversary of opening of Yokohama port. Some facilities including Sail Training Ship Nippon Maru, moving walkway and Rinko Park.

At that time, the area was very busy with many gorgeous pavilions in line and a parade was held everyday on Festival Street connecting to the museum. There are many tall buildings in the area and it is always busy with office workers and dressed shoppers.

The museum was officially opened to public after YOKOHAMA EXOTIC SHOWCASE '89. It collects many pieces of artwork of people related to Yokohama at the end of Edo period. Many art exhibitions including Edgar Degas’s exhibition and Mr. Yoshimoto Nara’s exhibition. I look forward to going to other attractive exhibitions in the future held at the museum.
