Onko Chishin! Trek-trek Sketch in Nishi-ward: Yokohama City Central Library
Yokohama City Central Library is five-stories building located near Noge-Cutting and at the corner of Nogezaka crossing. There is Nogeyama Park just in front of the library and Nogeyama Zoo, which is very popular for families is located on top of the slope.
There are always many visitors at the library. When I was a student, I used to use former City Central Library which was built in the current site in 1927 (Showa 2), but it was dark inside the library and most of the time people used card catalog, which was inconvenient rather than finding a book from bookshelves directly.
Current library was built in 1994 (Heisei 6) and it became much more convenient with bright lightning and many books are displayed in bookshelves. The number of its book collection is around 1.67 million. I often went there when I wanted to research something to draw pictures. I read many books including local materials of Kanagawa Prefecture and Yokohama city, magazines, PR magazines, art books, maps and newspapers all over Japan, tourist guidebooks and so on. I still go there often.
