Onko Chishin! Trek-trek Sketch in Nishi-ward: Kasumibashi Bridge

Looking up from Kuboyama bus stop located on the sloping road, Kasumibashi Bridge is massive and stately. After Great Kanto earthquake in 1928 (Showa 3), the current arch-typed bridge constructed with reinforced concrete was rebuilt. Red-brick wall and gatepost first built in 1913 (Taish? 2) were reused to build the current bridge. On top of the bridge, you can enjoy streetscape of Sakainotani and Koganecho. During Obon and Ohigan, many people visiting Kuboyama cemetery pass the bridge. There used to be municipal railways route 7 bound for Yahatabashi and route 9 bound for Urafunecho passing under the bridge. Back then, there was no downtown in western Yokohama. So Isezakicho was more like downtown. I used to take the municipal railway very excitedly to go to see popular Charlie Chaplin’s movie and Disney anime movie and passed under the bridge.
