Onko Chishin! Trek-trek Sketch in Nishi-ward: Nogeyama distributing reservoir area

Going up the Nogezaka Hill and crossing a bridge in front of Nogeyama Zoo, you will find former Nogeyama distributing reservoir.

In 1887 (Meiji 20) Japanese modern water system was born in this area enabling citizens to drink safe and reliable water. There is a statue of Henry Spencer Palmer, a British person who designed and supervised the construction of the water system in Yokohama. After Second World War in 1949 (Showa 24), “Japan Foreign Trade Fair” was held in this area. There were astronomy section and invention section. In the second venue at Tanmachi Park, a television was displayed for the first time and became very popular. Back then, there was not much entertainment, a lot of people came over and the venue was very busy. After that, this place became an amusement park where people can enjoy swimming pool for kids, roller-skating rink and Go-Karts. It was very fun to play there. I remember there was a competition pool next to it.
