Description

The engineer who designed Yokohama Waterworks, the first modern waterworks in Japan.
He came to Japan in Meiji 16 (1883), and designed waterworks planning in not only Yokohama but also in Osaka and Hakodate. He was a Major General Engineer of the British army when he came to Japan, but he resigned to dedicate the remainder of his life to the city planning of Yokohama, greatly contributing to its development.
In Showa 62 (1987), commemorating the 100th anniversary of founding of modern waterworks, a monument was built in Nogeyama Water Distribution Reservoir.
