Description

Called a “swan of the Pacific Ocean” from its beautiful image spreading 29 white sails, Nippon Maru used to be a training ship for cadets. 10 cities nationwide had nominated themselves as the preservation site, but Yokohama’s preservation plan as “living sail ship” was evaluated highly, and it was opened to the general public in Showa 60 (1985). In Heisei 29 (2017), it was designated a National Important Cultural Property. Around twelve times a year, you can see the ship under full sail at an event called Souhan Tenpan, with all of its sails fully spread.
