Description

The teacher Tanko Kimura was born in Sendai, and became a teacher in Kanagawa prefecture in Meiji 11 (1878). He was an educator, becoming a principal of Hodogaya Elementary School then later of Katabira Elementary School.
Because there were so many children who could not go to schools when he was teaching, after retiring as a principal, he founded Rintoku Primary School with his private funds.
He passed away at the age of 71, a victim of the Great Kanto Earthquake, and volunteers paying respects to his virtue built the monument.
