Description

The shrine was founded by the government and the prefecture in Meiji 3 (1870), as the protector of the citizens of Yokohama and its port. As with Ise Jingu Shrine, Amaterasu Omikami is the worshipped god at this shrine.
It used to be designated as the shrine to execute the prefectural ceremonies, and a divided spirit was enshrined on the top floor of the King’s Tower at the prefectural government’s office.
Also, Iseyama Rikyu, an imperial residence, was located next to the shrine.
