Description
This is an ancient temple that is said to have been established during the Sengoku period, sometime in Tenmon era (1532 - 1555).
Once upon a time, a bodhisattva Gyouki Bosatsu was looking for water in this land due to thirst. Bosatsu dug where a turtle appeared beside a road, and spring water flowed to quench the thirst. Thus Bosatsu named the area Mount Houki and built a thatched house. This house is the beginning of Ganjouji Temple.
